Stephen A Kearney

Social activist and political entrepreneur who writes, produces and composes stories and songs drawn from his life experience and  perspective of living in a crazy world. 

Born on St Andrew’s Day  in Glasgow to Irish immigrants from West Cork and Donegal, music was embedded in Stephen’s life from his earliest years.  Listening to great  music across many genres - progressive, reggae, club, classical - was an escape and a solace.   Big influences were Jimi Hendrix, Bob Dylan, Roxy Music and Jethro Tull. 

Chorister, singer, DJ, roadie, radio presenter, community leader and campaign  organiser - music played a huge part in his life.  He is fine- tuned to the power of sound and music to inspire, to calm, to excite, to stir - and  get people moving on a journey of change. 

After a pretty  stressful career spanning business, agriculture, community development and politics  Stephen knew something had to change. Life as it was, was not sustainable. Time to take a personal political stand.  Time for Stephen to grow his hair and let his creative genie, trapped since childhood, out of its cage. 
 

And so a new journey began.

What started as a simple passion project idea - a therapy through trauma and his wife’s cancer - transformed  into stories, poems and a TV script.   Tai chi and breathing practice for health and immune defence through the Covid years expanded into vocal training and a singing range of three octaves!    

Ideas became lyrics. Poems became songs. Stories became a  script.  A collaboration with James Lascelles became Cuttleloose, and with Dario Cei  and friends in Italy became 20 tracks and studio recordings.

Appreciating life and responsibility for the world we create, Stephen relishes the challenge of making music that connects with an audience - to lift spirits, stir the soul and rouse rebel hearts to be the change the world needs.

THIS is just the beginning of the next chapter in my life!  I demand a better future for our children and grand children.

Musician and Composer and a friend and colleague to Stephen. They work so well together. with a background in classical, jazz and progressive rock music. He graduated in classical flute with honors and special mention while also studying various other instruments, including guitar, piano, keyboards, drums, percussion, and ethnic instruments.

His classical training, combined with a deep passion for progressive rock, has led him to explore and appreciate a wide range of musical genres. As a composer, he writes for diverse ensembles, including orchestras, rock bands, small ensembles, and singer-songwriters. A key focus of his work is blending seemingly distant musical elements to create a unique sound.

With hundreds of independent and collaborative releases, Dario has worked both online and in person with artists from around the world. His original repertoire spans multiple genres, including two progressive rock albums, singer-songwriter pieces, and compositions for flute, guitar, and cello.

Lyrical or instrumental, his music carries a strong message of social awareness, addressing the critical issues of today's world—economic, social, and environmental. In a time when expectations for the future seem dim and society appears numb, he seeks to communicate on a deeper level, using what may be humanity's last true hope: art.
